Entry Controls

Irrespective of the information derived, the source data entered in an application must be reliable. The causes of entry errors are well documented and PC PAL are leaders in design and programming innovations ensuring the highest data quality.

Features include:

• Only one patient’s record present during data entry.
  This reduces the risk of inadvertently attaching observations to the wrong patient.
• Real time validations
  The user is informed of possible errors or conflicts as values are entered.
• Range validations
  Validation messages and data entry controls are related to the probability of an error with “Hard ranges” which cannot be exceeded and “Soft ranges” that can be overridden.
• Consistency tests
  Inter-field dependencies provide an additional level of verification and hide unnecessary fields.
• Serial data plots
  All data entries immediately update related charts and tables creating visible feedback to aid validation.

Diagnoses

A text searchable WHO ICD10 listing is frequently used for coding with the facility to record multiple diagnoses, complete or partial start and stop dates, and additional related information. Further diagnostic sub-divisions can be added to extend the ICD10 list. Irrespective of the classification system used, the primary diagnosis is prominently displayed with the diagnostic history immediately accessible as a flyover.

Medications

When variable dosing, metered dose devices, or a range of delivery methods are available, product presentation choice support at Phase III, and added value demands in Phase IV studies typically require a specialised prescribing module. Other concomitant medications are selected from the generic ATC directory.

Here the source material is a digital radiograph originating from the hospital radiology service. In this application the image is pre-processed locally and personal information removed before transmission to a remote site where the image data is processed by BoneXpert^Ⓡ

Combined Data Recording and Organisation

The most efficient way to record certain data types is by mapping. PC PAL Pedigree is a graphical user interface that predicts and records the transmission of phenotypic characteristics within a family tree, whilst maintaining the capability to identify individual profiles through a query interface.

Starting with the index case, the user enters inter- and intra-generation relationships and data using a wizard. Alternatively, selections can be made from the toolbar or both techniques combined. The application draws and adapts the chart as family members are added. If the inheritance type is set, for example X-linked dominance, choosing any individual as the index case identifies potentially affected family members.
